Tuesday Tobacco Talks: A Scientific Study of Sot-Weed

Too often, historians and agriculturalists are eager to explore the impact of this plant on the land, the culture, the workforce. How did those things, in turn, impact the genetic changes and deliberate genetic modifications of the plant itself? When a cigarette is smoked today, is it made of the same tobacco that the indigenous people raised 300 years ago in Peru? These questions, and many more, will be explored virtually in ‘A Scientific Study of Sot-weed’ as we seek to uncover just how the world has impacted this unsuspecting plant throughout the past 250 years.

This is part two of a four-part series. Register for each session individually, or save $5 when you register for all four. All sessions are from 7-8 pm on October 20, November 10, November 17, and November 24. Registrants will receive a recording of past presentations.
